For whom the Pooram?

The Thrissur Pooram is going to be celebrated with all pomp and glory, just a few days after seven poor labourers where torn to pieces by the fury of explosives. When people die, especially in gruesome tragedies like this, most societies at least wear a pretense of sympathy and announce a state of mourning, cancelling all celebrations (the Pooram is a *celebration* and has little or no religious significance). The citizens of Trichur, the cultural capital of Kerala, have decided to do away with all this and go ahead and enjoy themselves .... shame on them. I wonder what would have happened if there was even one `important' person amongst the dead - bandh's, hartal's, endless discussions ... but poor labourers - they just go up in smoke silently.
